The 50th anniversary of Hip Hop in 2024 through a series of special shows on Ujima Radio. The project featured in-depth interviews with key figures in Bristol’s hip-hop scene, including DJs, producers, and filmmakers, some of whom have been active for over 30 years. Collaborating with producer Flynnites and DJ Krust (Full Cycle Records), Thompson’s team (i46) created an exclusive series of conversations. Interviewees included turntable wizard Sir Beans OBE, pioneering DJ & producer Ben Dubuisson (Hundred Strong), and renowned graffiti artist Felix Braun (FLX). These hour-long interviews, conducted by Flynnites, were enriched with music scores from the artists favourite tracks, aiming to engage a wider audience.

The project utilised Ujima Radio as a platform for these month-long special events and interviews. The interviews were captured in both audio and video formats, with video clips edited for social media promotion across various channels. The goal was to provide a unique insight into Bristol’s musical history, encompassing music, arts, and street culture, even for those not typically fans of hip-hop.
